Sole-source IDIQ H9240824D0001 (“Automated Crew & Workload”), signed 7 Jun 2024. Ceiling $105M; ordering period through 6 Apr 2029 on the award record. About $15.96M obligated on the PDR/CDR order (H9240824F0010); that order’s period of performance ended 31 Jul 2026. Merlin is paid only when SOCOM places orders under it. Stages 3–7 were unfunded as of the 13 May 2026 prospectus. (USAspending IDIQ · PDR/CDR order · prospectus 13 May 2026
Merlin has described progress integrating on the KC-135 with the U.S. Air Force, and a 23 Sep 2025 joint release with GE Aerospace on an “autonomy core” collaboration naming the KC-135 Center Console Refresh as the first teaming opportunity. The prospectus says the teaming agreement runs 36 months and ends in 2028 unless extended. The filing describes a right to pursue work together. (GE/Merlin PR 23 Sep 2025 · prospectus
On 14 Sep 2026, Textron Aviation and Merlin introduced a Cessna SkyCourier UX concept at Air, Space & Cyber. Textron and Merlin call it a concept aircraft. Design objectives cited (~6,000 lb payload, up to three LD3 containers) are design objectives. Merlin 14 Sep 2026 · Merlin 18 Sep 2026
On 9 Sep 2026 Merlin said it is shutting down the small-aircraft New Zealand CAA certification program and concentrating civil certification investment on large aircraft, building on C-130J work. Kerikeri remains the flight-test center; Merlin intends commercial operations there under CAANZ Part 107, with no year attached in that note. Merlin frames this as a strategy change. Section 2
A confident, sourced view. Not investment advice.
Merlin looks one headline away from a clearer public proof point: funded integration and ground test on the C-130J path, or a dated large-aircraft civil-cert milestone that replaces the small-aircraft file it closed.
The company already has a named defense spine (USSOCOM C-130J IDIQ with PDR and CDR done), a large cash balance relative to early revenue, and partners (GE, Textron concept, IAI MOU) that keep it in front of operators and regulators. What it does not yet have in the public award record, as pulled 4 Oct 2026, is a funded successor order after the design-phase task that ended 31 Jul 2026. The prospectus said Stages 3–7 were unfunded as of 13 May 2026. (USAspending · prospectus · 8-K exhibit 13 Aug 2026
Section 3
Forward items only, from the researched timeline. Dates and briefings below are as published in the cited sources, not completed outcomes.
FY2027 SOCOM book prints November 2026 award plans: AEA Aviation Mission Autonomy ($3.100M, performer “Various”), ITMS MC-130J software ($3.500M, Lockheed), Aviation Engineering Analysis ($5.898M, “Various”). None name Merlin. An award month in a justification is a plan.
The FY2027 continuing resolution (P.L. 119-103, H.R. 6500, signed 2 September 2026) funds federal agencies, including defense, at FY2026 levels until full-year FY2027 appropriations pass or this date, whichever comes first. If neither a new bill nor another stopgap passes, funding lapses 12 December. Under the CR, DoD cannot start projects that lacked FY2026 funding (Sec. 104), so a brand-new funded Merlin program before full-year appropriations is unlikely. Work already funded can continue.
ITMS workstreams and CR-3.1 fielding language (“late FY27”) sit in the same SOCOM book; planned ITMS award months run Jan–May 2027. A2E autonomy award line planned Jan 2027. Acquisition text names Sierra Nevada / Lockheed / “Various.” None name Merlin.
House-passed FY2027 NDAA would require an Air Force plan through FY2047 covering automation and autonomous airlift. The section does not name Merlin. H.R. 8800 remains a House-passed bill (House passed 22 Jul 2026; received in Senate 14 Sep 2026).
House Report 119-698 directs an Air Force briefing on attritable jets for logistics. The report does not name Merlin. Report direction sits in a committee report.
Same committee report: Air Force + USTRANSCOM brief HASC on remotely piloted or autonomous aircraft for distributed airlift, including, if technologies “hold promise,” a proposed timeline for an acquisition strategy. The report does not name Merlin and does not order an aircraft.
10-Q: a lease with estimated total future payments of $34.247M through Sep 2035 “is expected to commence in 2027.” Facility timing only.
10 Jun 2026 post aimed at commercial autonomous revenue service in New Zealand in 2027. 9 Sep 2026 strategy note shuts the small-aircraft program and intends Part 107 operations at Kerikeri, with no year. Later plan controls; neither is an authority approval.
Prospectus: NGSC memo for Beacon testbed support has a 24-month term ending July 2027 unless extended. Support memo language only.
Prospectus: 36-month teaming ends in 2028 unless extended. Year only; the filing does not invent a day from the press-release date.
10-Q: commencement 23 Mar 2026, expiration 31 Jan 2029 (with early-termination mechanics). Office lease timing.
USAspending end date on H9240824D0001 unless modified. After that date, no new orders on this vehicle without amendment. The ordering-window end leaves fielding status on its own timeline.
Section 4
Recent Merlin items and substantial industry moves, each with a one-line Merlin tie-back.
Tie-back: Frames Condor / crewed autonomy as the near commercial path while full autonomy evidence accumulates on the same core.
Tie-back: Reiterates the Sep 2026 large-aircraft civil certification strategy in an aerial-inspection context.
Tie-back: Restates the single autonomy core across civil and military airframes, the product claim behind C-130J and Condor.
Tie-back: Merlin Pilot demo at a TxDOT eIPP kickoff (10 Sep flight). Operational exposure for regulators.
Tie-back: On-site Flight Operations role posted 18 Sep 2026; hangar-floor modification work is a staffing signal.
Tie-back: Keeps SkyCourier UX as a concept tied to the same C-130J autonomy core ($105M ceiling / CDR done).
Tie-back: Contested-logistics concept pairing a certified SkyCourier airframe with Merlin Pilot. Design exploration.
Tie-back: Closes the small-aircraft NZ CAA file and redirects civil investment to large aircraft, the defining civil-path change of Q3.
Tie-back: Last printed quarter: early revenue, CDR complete, next phase described as integrate then ground test, still without a funded Stage 3 in the May prospectus.
Tie-back: Competitor autonomy stack accruing flight hours on a military logistics airframe in the same contested-logistics demand space Merlin targets with C-130J / SkyCourier UX.
Tie-back: Peer autonomous-cargo cert path getting cabinet-level eIPP attention. Merlin separately flew a NEXUS/eIPP demo in Texas in September.
Tie-back: Well-funded autonomy peer also chasing FAA-certifiable cargo ops and Indo-Pacific logistics. Capital competition in Merlin’s category.
Tie-back: Mission-autonomy software competing on fighter-class CCA. Different mission than Merlin’s airlift focus; still shows DoD appetite for third-party autonomy stacks.
